The Best Ways to Wear Checks This Winter

Keep your style in check this season by taking pointers from the fash-pack and embracing the print of the moment. Whether it’s Prince of Wales, plaid or tartan, being square just got a whole lot cooler.

Each season has one of those trends that everyone falls head over heels for – from influencers and fashion editors to celebs. This winter it’s a look that you can wear from work through to the weekend and beyond. Checks are back for AW17 and they’re bigger than Beyoncé, so we’ve got the scoop on how best to wear them.

Rain Check

Check Double Breasted Coat, £69

If you’re anything like me, then come December you’re already in hibernation mode, with boxes upon boxes of Quality Street and a to-do list that consists mainly of binge-watching various Netflix series. If there’s one thing that might coax you outside however it’s a beautifully tailored Prince of Wales check, double-breasted coat. Flattering, warm and completely on-trend, taking a rain check will be the last thing you’ll want to do.

How to wear it: Style it out like @irenaponaroshku and pair your coat with heeled ankle boots (cute and cold-weather appropriate) and jeans for a relaxed look that’s still full of sophistication.

Trail Blazer

Monochrome Checked Blazer, £38

If there’s one piece you need this season it’s the checked blazer. A must-have if there ever was one, the checked blazer has been all over our Instagram feed and is the perfect standout item to sharpen even the most casual look. If a blazer isn’t already a staple in your wardrobe, then it should be, with a tailored jacket possessing the power to pull any look together – no effort needed!

How to wear it: We love the way @louisaxgrace wears her checked blazer flung over the shoulders, teamed with a super-soft blush knit and faux leather shirt (talk about style goals!)

Work It

Grey Checked Print Tie Trousers, £25

Our prayers may have been answered because, finally, we have a trend that is completely work appropriate, but that we can still rock the weekends (talk about win, win!) If you are going to invest in the perfect desk-to-dancefloor checked piece, then you can’t go wrong with a pair of timeless tailored trousers. Not only do they look super chic with a white crisp shirt, but they’re a fashion-forward option with a simple change of a top.

How to wear it: Make grey look glamorous @nadaadellex like and pair your check print trousers with monochrome to really make the print really pop.

Think Print

Black And Ivory Check Print Shift Dress, £28

If all-over prints normal make you a little nervous then checks are the perfect pattern to ease you into the look. The great thing about geometric patterns are that they never come across too fussy and add structure to more free-flowing silhouettes such as shift dresses and tunics, giving the most simple shapes an edge (or four to be exact!)

How to wear it: When it comes to all an all-over print @fakerstrom has it down to an art form, wearing her check shift dress with a little denim jacket and stylish black sock boots.
